Zebrafish have been engineered by Univ. of Calif., San Diego, researchers to have transparent bodies. This lets the scientists directly observe the accumulation of LDL or bad cholesterol in their arteries, and test cholesterol-fighting drugs much more quickly than with other animals used in research. The findings may aid in developing new preventive and treatment drugs for heart diseases.
